Fatal Hamlin house fire ruled accidental; cause unknown

The house fire that killed Dennis Hamlin, the father of NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin, has been ruled an accident, with the exact cause of the Dec. 28 incident still unclear.

That’s according to the final report following an investigation by the Gaston County Fire Department. The fire started in a bedroom, but the report also states that the source of the heat, the type of material that was ignited and the cause of the fire have not yet been determined.

From a material perspective, property damage from the fire was estimated at $776,360. The home is owned by Denny Hamlin and was built in 2015 for his parents. Dennis is 75 years old. Mary Lou Hamlin, 69, is still recovering and traveling with the Hamlins to Florida for the Daytona 500.
