Veteran wide receiver Darnell Mooney will reportedly join the league’s free agent roster.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Falcons Planned release Mooney. With the start of the new season just days away, the Falcons may try to see if any team is willing to trade Mooney before officially releasing him.

Mooney’s salary cap hit is expected to be $18.42 million next season, which won’t help generate any trade interest. The Falcons will eat $11 million of that as dead money unless they designate Mooney for release after June 1. Doing so will free up nearly $12 million in cap space, but the Falcons won’t take advantage of the savings immediately.
Mooney had 64 catches for 992 yards in his first year with the Falcons, but dropped to 32 catches for 443 yards in the 2025 season.
