Falcons 1 of 12 NFL teams to host supersized WR prospect for workout

In a departure from their usual way of doing things, the Atlanta Falcons front office appears to be thinking local when it comes to NFL Draft prospects. They selected Georgia Bulldogs star edge rusher Ja’Lon Walker in the first round of last year’s draft, and they’ve been scouting several prospects from the state this year. For example, a new simulation from NFL.com shows them using No. 19 Georgia defensive tackle Christen Miller as an example.

Local flavor includes Georgia State’s oversized wide receiver Ted Hurst, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds at the scout combine. Hurst listed the Falcons among the long list of teams he visited before the draft (12). Today he’ll visit the Miami Dolphins and then the Indianapolis Colts. Hurst’s schedule also includes the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders. That’s NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reporting.

Competition for Hurst is understandable, as receivers with his rare combination of size and speed are always in demand.

Hurst took full advantage of those tools at Georgia State, totaling 1,965 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns the past two seasons after transferring from Valdosta State. Here are some of his best pieces at the collegiate level.

Help on the interior defensive line and off-ball linebacker also has to be on the menu, but if Hurst is still there when Atlanta picks No. 48 overall, the Falcons will have to at least consider taking him. In theory, Hurst would immediately step into a key WR2 role in Kevin Stefanski’s offense, serving as the much-needed Robin to Derek London’s Batman.
