FC Barcelona and Germany international Ter Stegen is set to move to Catalan club Girona to get some playing time ahead of the World Cup, according to Spanish media reports. To make this move happen, the goalkeeper’s salary may be reduced.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there are only a few small details left to be clarified before Girona can finalize Ter Stegen’s transfer. talkSport claim West Ham United also made an inquiry but the offer was rejected.

FC Barcelona no longer needs Ter Stegen. He has been replaced by Joan García, Hansi Flick’s recent number one pick. The 33-year-old is yet to start a game in La Liga or the Champions League and has made just one appearance in the Copa del Rey so far this season.
To remain in contention for a World Cup spot, Ter Stegen needs consistent minutes, but he won’t be able to get them if he stays at Barcelona on his current salary. Moving to Girona also brought him closer to his family, which may have influenced the choice of destination. Now, if he performs well there, Julian Nagelsmann might call him Germany’s number one at the World Cup.
Ter Stegen has been waiting his whole life to play international football for Germany. Will this finally happen in the twilight of his career?
