Ex-Escambia firefighter gets 75 years in prison for making child porn

A former Escambia County firefighter has been sentenced to 75 years in federal prison for producing and possessing child pornography for “a decade,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced March 4.

Garey Buscaino, a 48-year-old Pensacola man who was fired as an Escambia firefighter after his arrest in 2025, pleaded guilty to five counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

“Protecting our children from the exploitation and predation of patients like this criminal remains one of my office’s top priorities,” said John Heekin, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. “I am deeply grateful for the outstanding investigative work of our state and federal law enforcement partners who helped stop this predator from continuing to sexually exploit underage children and bring him to justice. As this significant prison sentence demonstrates, my office will relentlessly pursue those criminals who harm our children, prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, and seek the harshest penalties for their heinous crimes.”

Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents arrested Buscano on May 15, 2025, after discovering numerous photo and video files depicting child sexual abuse material.

Law enforcement first opened an investigation into Buscano on April 29, 2025, when an agent received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a user of a common cloud storage account had downloaded multiple files of child sexual abuse material.

A phone number in Buscaino’s name uploaded 33 CSAM files on March 8. Of the more than 5,000 files discovered, agents found more than 1,000 “child pornography” files that did not meet CSAM’s legal requirements, but they did find 96 video files of Buscaino filming girls without their knowledge.

A video taken by Buscaino showed another person in the background, and agents used that person to link the video to Buscaino, FDLE reported.

Agents then used this to conduct a search warrant at Buscano’s home.

“During the execution of the search warrant, hidden cameras were discovered in Buscano’s bedroom,” the FDLE report states. “One was disguised as an e-cigarette and the other was disguised as a wall charger.

“Several GoPro-style cameras were also found in the residence,” the report adds. “An on-site forensic examination of the SD cards inside the cameras revealed the same voyeuristic video files as (the teenage girl’s).”

Multiple USB drivers were recovered from Buscaino’s home, containing over 100 additional CSAM files.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, several of Buscano’s victims appeared in court for sentencing.
