Esther Joseph, Carter Knox set Tennessee program records

Two Tennessee student-athletes set program records Friday at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.

Esther Joseph and Javonya Valcourt finished first and second respectively in the women’s 300 meters.

Joseph won the race in 36.41 seconds, breaking the school record and ranking eighth on the NCAA all-time list. Valcott finished second in 36.46, a personal best and the ninth-fastest time in NCAA history.

At the Vanderbilt Invitational, Vols junior Carter Knox set the fastest 1,000-meter time in Tennessee history. He finished the race in 2 minutes, 22.79 seconds, breaking Canaan Anderson’s event record of 2 minutes, 23.38 seconds set in 2025. Knox’s result earned him fifth place in the event.

Twelve Tennessee athletes set indoor personal bests Friday.

In addition to Knox, Joseph and Valcourt, Andrew Brown completed the men’s 400 meters in 46.72 seconds. Gavin Genisio had the best time in the 1,000 meters (2:24.59).

In the men’s long jump competition, Ged Gray jumped 7.97 meters and Justice Jones jumped 7.81 meters. In the men’s shot put competition, JL Van Rensburg’s score was 19.06 meters.

Skye Tolbert clocked 8.19 seconds in the women’s 60-meter hurdles. Endia Smith cleared 5.97 meters in the women’s long jump and 12.56 meters in the women’s triple jump.

In the women’s weightlifting and throwing competition, Cedricka Williams set a personal best of 19.39 meters.
