The Washington Commanders placed right guard Sam Cosmi on injured reserve on Monday, ending his 2025 season. What happens at right back this week?
The Commanders host the Cowboys in what will be the final home game of a disappointing 2025 season. The game will be played on Christmas Day, another opportunity provided by the NFL to let football take precedence over important matters on such an important day.

Andrew Wylie will replace Cosmi at right back. Wylie played guard and tackle at Kansas City and Washington. Wylie spoke confidently Tuesday about stepping into a role that’s needed for the good of the team. Of note was the brief quote Wylie provided to the media, in which Wylie volunteered that No. 3 quarterback Josh Johnson has been doing his homework all season and is ready to take advantage of the opportunity to start this season.
But more importantly, Wylie didn’t talk about Marcus Mariota or Johnson starting. He simply said that in his opinion, Johnson will be the starter on Thursday and how he thinks the offensive line should view Johnson starting.
“Josh has been attacking the conference all year,” Wylie said. “So, there’s no question he’s ready. So I think it’s just a big game for us, you know?”
While that may be true, Johnson struggled against the Eagles on Saturday, finishing with a passer rating of just 28.7.
“Like, how do you want to attack these things? We’re going to attack [No.] 14 Back there. You know what I mean? So I think the five of us on the front line are taking this personally. “

It sounds like Wylie and the other tight ends have discussed playing hard for Johnson.
If Johnson performs better this week against the Cowboys, it will certainly be better for the Commander’s front office. Especially considering he’s been with the team all season and the Commanders elected to keep Johnson.
