Stellenbosch FC winger Devon Titus has given his full support to head coach Gavin Hunt in his bid to change the club’s fortunes in the second round of the 2025/26 season.

The experienced mentor was appointed in December 2025 to replace Steve Barker, who left for Tanzanian giants Simba SC at the end of his eight-year tenure at the club.

Stellies find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they sit 14th in the Betway Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone and one point above the PSL promotion and relegation zone.

Now Titus is backing Hunt to turn things around in the Cape Winelands, citing his credentials as a four-time South African champion.

“For me, I think it’s a refreshing moment, obviously coach Steve gave me my first start, but Gavin Hunt just brings some fresh air to Stellenbosch. His style of play is a bit like the Stellenbosch way and he’s trying to achieve that in the players,” he said.

“Steve Buck was the one who made my debut so I’m very grateful to him and I’m sad to see him go but I know there are better and greater things for him.

“Gavin Hunt has been a breath of fresh air. His style of football and all the accolades and games he’s won – I know he’ll give us the boost we need.”

The speedy striker expressed excitement at staying at his boyhood club after penning a new long-term contract with Stellenbosch despite interest in his services from the likes of Egypt’s Al Masry SC.

“I’m happy to be here in Stellenbosch, this is my boyhood club and they gave me my first chance to start when no other team wanted me. I’m grateful and happy to be here in Stellenbosch,” Titus added.

“This is my boyhood club and I’m very loyal to the people who have been loyal to me, so I just want to show my loyalty to them more.

Stellenbosch will play Sekuhun United in the Premier League at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in what will be Hunter’s first game in charge.
