Not only do the Cleveland Cavaliers advance to the 2026 playoffs, they also have home-court advantage in the first-round matchup. While they could still move into the third seed held by the New York Knicks, they were certain they wouldn’t drop to the fifth seed.

It’s been a tough season for the Cavaliers, especially with their slow start. Now that they have at least the No. 4 seed locked up, they will have an advantage against the No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the first round.
Schroeder talks why home-court advantage is crucial for Cavaliers
Prior to the 2025-26 season, most NBA experts viewed the Cavaliers as the favorites in the Eastern Conference. It’s a fair argument considering they won more than 60 games in the 2024-25 regular season.
Unfortunately, that didn’t go as planned as the Cavs battled injuries. They changed their starting lineup almost every game, a situation that stabilized in the second half of the season.

The Cavaliers’ front office realized they needed to make some roster changes, so they made the trade. They acquired Cohen Ellis, Dennis Schroder and James Harden.
The team also parted ways with longtime Cavaliers starter Darius Garland. This helped the team turn their season around, as all of these players contributed greatly to their promising second half of the season.
“Especially for Cavs fans, I think it’s really important that we have the home crowd advantage. That’s going to help us in the first round. We just have to focus, get these games done, and be ready,” Schroeder said after the Cavaliers’ win on Monday.
