Washington Commanders guard Sam Cosmi is not happy with the news that Kliff Kingsbury will not return next season.
Cosmi, who appeared on 106.7 The Fan with BMitch & Finlay’s Brian Mitchell and JP Finlay on Tuesday, was informed of the news ahead of the broadcast, but sounded cautious when talking about Kingsbury not being his offensive coordinator in 2026. The front line depends on them. “

During his short NFL career (2021-2025), Cosmi currently plays under offensive coordinators Scott Turner (2021-22), Eric Bieniemy (2023) and Kliff Kingsbury (2024-25). The former Texas Longhorn was drafted in the second round (51st overall) out of the University of Washington in 2021 and has learned that this is a cutthroat industry.
“All I can do is say, ‘Okay, I get it, what’s next?’ Who’s coming in? What’s the new script?”
After five seasons in the NFL, Cosmi is willing to move on quickly and adapt to new offensive coordinators as they are named and arrive. However, you can also clearly hear that Sam Cosmi genuinely respects and appreciates Kingsbury.
“Cliff is an extraordinary person as a person,” Cosmi began. “Really respecting who he is. One of the things I appreciate the most is that when it comes to being able to talk to players, being able to get feedback from us, he embraces that, and not a lot of OCs do that. That’s something I really appreciate, that he listens to us. It says a lot about his character and who he is.”

“It’s unfortunate what just happened, but for the most part, it’s a business at the end of the day. We have to perform and that’s what it is.”
Cosmi also said Kingsbury does a good job running the ball and thinks it’s important to build on that.
“The biggest thing for us is establishing an identity, especially in the run game. I think we showed a lot of potential in the run game.”
