The Indianapolis Colts have signed Chicago Bears free agent safety and key special teams player Jonathan Owens to bolster their depleted position depth, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo:
The 5-foot-11, 204-pound safety originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 and played with the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and most recently the Bears.

In 82 career games (35 starts), the seven-year veteran has 295 tackles (191 solo), three tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, 10 passes defended and four fumble receptions.
Owens played in all 17 games for the Bears last season and made 19 tackles (nine solo). The 30-year-old veteran played in 58 percent of the Bears’ special teams snaps in 2025.
He finished with a +48.6 overall grade last season, according to PFF.
Owens is expected to be a backup safety and key special teams player for the Colts next season, as the team recently lost backup safety Rodney Thomas II to the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.
Of course, he is also famous for being the husband of one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, Simone Biles.
