Chelsea and Tottenham announce Sydney pre-season trip, Chelsea Women to face A-League XI

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will take part in next summer’s Sydney Cup pre-season, with Chelsea Women taking on the Women’s A-League All-Stars.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur’s men’s teams will meet for the first time outside of England on August 1 at the 83,500-capacity Accor Stadium, four days after Chelsea face Western Sydney Wanderers at the same venue, while Tottenham face Sydney FC at the city’s Allianz Stadium on June 29.

In two weeks’ time, on August 12, the A-League Women’s All-Stars will face Chelsea Women at the 45,000-capacity Allianz Arena, in a game that is likely to pit Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter against their Matildas teammates.

Steve Kemper, Minister for Employment and Tourism and Minister for Sport, said: “These four games will give visiting fans the opportunity to stay in our beautiful port city for an extended period, enjoying our iconic natural attractions and vibrant cultural experiences in one of the world’s top sporting destinations.

“As we work to achieve our goal of a $91bn (£45.3bn) visitor economy, major events like this are critical to creating unforgettable experiences that inspire visitors to stay longer, return and explore more of our great state.”

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank said: “Sydney is one of the most iconic sporting locations in the world and I’m delighted to be leading the team in two games there, one against one of our biggest rivals.
