Celta Vigo have had an excellent season on the pitch and they will now be looking to get a major boost at board level. It has something to do with a priceless shirt worn by pop icon Maddona when she performed in Balaidos 36 years ago.
Madonna performed in Valledos as part of “Blonde Ambition” in 1990, and on stage she wore a Celta Vigo jersey. The Galicians have been frantically searching for the shirt, but their failed search has now prompted president Marian Mourinho to get in touch with the pop icon via a letter posted on the club’s social media accounts.

Full text of Mourinho’s letter to Madonna
“Dear Madonna, I am writing to you to ask for your help in something that means a lot to us. On July 29, 1990, you performed live in our stadium, Valledos, home of Celta Vigo, a club of which I am proud to serve as president. That night we were honored to see you wearing our sky blue shirt.
“It is a fondly remembered memory that still lives on among our supporters. The picture of you wearing our jersey has become a myth and is now part of our history, a history that is often written away from the football pitch. Many believe it was a simple coincidence. I don’t think anything happens by chance.
“While our jersey is not the only football shirt you wear on stage, this iconic image has become something different over time. Over time, we have come to understand more and more what you stood for at the time: questioning established norms and standing up to those who tried to tell you what you could or could not do.

“In our club we know ourselves in this vein. That is why we hold out the hope of finding the clothes you once wore. This search is an act of memory, part of the emotional heritage of our club and a symbol of what it represents.
“We want to show you a little love from our home, the Valledos Stadium, on Friday, March 6. Before Celta Vigo’s match against Real Madrid at 8:45 pm, we just want to ask you a simple question: Do you have it? If you know where it is, or if you want to join us in finding it, please contact us.”
It remains to be seen whether McDonagh’s representatives will contact Celta Vigo in the coming days. It would be quite a statement if she traveled to Valledos to play against Real Madrid on Friday.
