Celebrini has 4 points, Sherwood scores go-ahead goal as Sharks beat Canadiens 7-5

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Macklin Celebrini had a goal and three assists, Kiefer Sherwood scored the game-winning goal with 3:26 left and the San Jose Sharks beat the Montreal Canadiens 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Will Smith, Michael Misa, Colin Graf, Alexander Weinberg and Adam Gaudet also scored for the Sharks, who made it three straight wins after a four-game skid.

Alex Newhook had two power-play goals for the Canadiens. Oliver Kapanen, Phillip Danault and Ivan Demidov also scored for Montreal, and Mike Matheson had three assists.

The Canadiens lost for the first time in the regular season since losing in Boston on Jan. 24.

In just his fourth game since helping Canada win a silver medal at the Olympics in Milan Cortina, the 19-year-old Serrabrini scored his 30th goal of the season in the second period when the Sharks scored three times in 8 minutes and 20 seconds to take a 5-2 lead.

The Canadiens scored three times in the third period. Midway through the third quarter, Newhook’s second goal made the score 5-5.

Sherwood penetrated the Montreal penalty area and missed from close range. Filip Kurashev controlled the rebound and passed the ball back to Sherwood to help his team take the lead.

Jaroslav Askarov made 30 saves for the Sharks. Jakub Dobes stopped 21 of the Canadiens’ 27 shots.

Misa’s overtime goal gave San Jose a comeback victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, and he scored midway through the second period to tie the game at 2. At the end of the second quarter, Celebrini and Weinberg scored with 25 seconds each.
