Carter drives in a run and robs Cruz of a homer as Rangers beat Pirates 5-1

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Kumar Roark allowed one run in six innings, Evan Carter drove in the tying run and then robbed O’Neal Cruz of a three-run homer to lead the Texas Rangers to a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.

Cruz led off the game with a single against the Rock (1-1). He stole second and gained an extra base on Danny Jansen’s throwing error. Ryan O’Hearn singled and two batters made it 1-0 in the game.

Joc Pederson led off Carmen Mlodzinski (1-1) in the second and Josh Jung doubled him to third. Carter tied the game with a single, and Josh Smith hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

Carter then robbed Cruz of a three-run homer in the fifth inning, keeping the score at 2-1.

Eqequiel Duran, who came in after left fielder Wyatt Langford left with forearm stiffness, had an RBI double in the Rangers’ fifth inning, and Corey Seager ended Mlodzinski’s night with an RBI single for a 4-1 lead. Wilber Dotel came in and gave up a single to Jake Burger before walking Pederson. Jung drove Seager for a forced out in the final game.

Roark threw 88 pitches, allowed four hits, drove in one and struck out five. Cole Winn, Jacob Latz and Jakob Junis each pitched a scoreless inning to end the game.

Mlozinski threw 93 pitches, allowed six hits and two runs, giving up all five runs. He fanned six times.

The Rangers (12-11) start nine home games above .500 after playing 16 of their first 22 road games.

Pittsburgh dropped to 5-5 on the road and 13-10 on the season.

Langford, the Rangers’ hottest hitter before the injury, went 7-for-14 as the Texans lost two of three games in Seattle before heading home. He walked and stole three bases in the first inning and left after striking out in the third.
