The Canadian team was invited to participate in the first World Baseball Classic held in 2006. Team Canada competes every year but has yet to move beyond the pool stage.

Canada won 2-1 on its debut in 2006 but finished ninth in the final standings. In 2009, the Canadian team finished 13th in the group stage held in Canada with 0 wins and 2 losses.
In the past three World Baseball Classics, Canada has finished 12th, 15th and 14th respectively. This year, they are at a disadvantage as they are grouped with Colombia, Panama, Cuba and Puerto Rico, with Puerto Rico hosting the group stage.
