Buccaneers could target a former first-round pick via trade

The 2026 offseason won’t be a fun one for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if they don’t shine. The team itself hit a wall midway through the season, and yes, injuries played a role, but the roster itself also exposed huge needs that needed to be addressed. They can achieve these changes by taking some steps that may be popular, but they can also take some steps that may not be so popular.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine hinted at one such move in a recent article.

The team continues to hype up the acquisition of superstar edge rusher Maxx Crosby, but what if they solved the problem in a cheaper way? Ballentine said maybe the team could trade Green Bay Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary. He wrote, “Tampa needs to get more dynamic on the edge and Rashan Gary could use a change of scenery. The Packers brought in Micah Parsons in part because Gary didn’t live up to his contract. However, he only has two years left on his contract and it’s easy to manipulate the salary with an extension or adding void years.”

Gary is a better fit for the edge rusher the Buccaneers seem to favor, someone who generates more power than speed in some situations. This contract will also be more under the control of the Buccaneers, so this move could make sense if the team wants to make a splash.
