An alleged change in one of Buc-ee’s’ most notorious rules has sparked new criticism of the Texas-founded travel center chain.

For years, Buc-ee’s has banned semi-trucks from parking at its locations nationwide. Now, one man claims there are new changes to the rules that would ban all commercial trailers from entering the store.

Darren Nichols of Nevada posted on Facebook in early February expressing regret for his experience after stopping at a Bastrop Buc-ee’s for gas and breakfast. Nichols claimed in the post that the Beaver Front chain is adjusting their no-semi-truck policy and extending it to all commercial trailers, including dump trucks as well as work trucks with equipment trailers.

“After breakfast, I was sitting in my truck eating when a waiter knocked on my window and told me that due to this new policy I was not welcome and needed to leave,” Nichols wrote in the post, which has received thousands of likes and comments and nearly 800 shares online. “I went in and asked to speak to a manager. He was very professional and courteous and explained that this policy change was being rolled out to Buc-ee’s stores nationwide.”

Nichols also pointed out alleged inconsistencies in the new policy and claimed he saw “at least 50 tree service trucks” towing trailers at the travel center during his visit. Some users expressed sympathy for Nichols, while others lamented the commercial trailer parked at the tourist center.

Commenter Dennis Lemke wrote: “If you’ve been to almost any truck stop where trucks actually park, you’ll understand why they don’t want big trucks parked there.” While Richard Lewis added: “So if trucks aren’t allowed on their property, I wonder how they’re going to deliver fuel, food, and groceries? Covered wagons?”

A spokesman for Buc-ee’s declined to comment when asked by MySA about any possible changes to its semi-truck policy.
