Manchester United suffered their first defeat as manager of Michael Carrick when they lost 2-1 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
The defeat was made all the more painful despite the fact that the Magpies only had 10 players for over 45 minutes of play.

No United player impressed, but Brian Mbemo was outstanding and had his worst performance of the season.
The Cameroonian seemed wasted out wide, completing just 19 passes in his 77 minutes on the pitch, ending his tenure with a measly 76% passing accuracy.
Brian Mbemo Disaster Class
He was like a ghost on the wing, failing to find his teammates in four crosses. The former Brentford man also failed to complete a single dribble.
The 26-year-old had a great chance to score, but his shot from a few yards out saw the goalkeeper out of position.

Match statistics from sofascore
Brian Mbemo was equally poor without the ball, winning just two of his seven ground duels.
In fact, he has the lowest Sofascore rating of any United player (5.9).
Not worth starting against Villa
The Cameroon international looked very poor when not scoring and his overall game left a lot to be desired.
He was once extremely influential for the Bees, even without scoring, but seems to have lost that touch at United.
At least Amad has made defensive transitions on every play while managing to play his man out wide. Mbemo looks incapable of either and Carrick should have replaced him sooner against Eddie Howe’s side.

It’s time for him to start on the bench as United face Aston Villa in what has become a pivotal game of the Red Devils’ season.
How Carrick recovers from this defeat and how he inspires his players to bounce back will go a long way in determining his eligibility for the permanent role at the end of the season.
