The Cleveland Browns have a new head coach, former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken. He got the Browns job over Jim Schwartz, and while there’s some disconnect, the offense should improve.

But while room at running back and tight end is almost a sure thing, the Browns do have some big questions at wide receiver, the offensive line, and especially the quarterback.

During his introductory press conference, Monken was asked about his thoughts on the quarterback room. His answer was Shedeur Sanders announcing the big news for the 2026 NFL season, as Underdog NFL shared on Twitter/x.

Browns’ Shaddell Sanders gets big news from Todd Monken

Monken revealed that as of now, before free agency and the start of the new league year, “the Browns’ 2026 starting quarterback position remains to be determined.”

According to this answer, Sanders has not yet determined his starting position for the 2026 season. While Monken and Sanders had a positive interaction when they first appeared on the Browns’ practice field, there are still some questions about next year’s starting lineup.

At this point in the offseason, that’s not surprising. It’s still early, and while Sanders might offer the Browns the best upside right now, they could turn to Dillon Gabriel, Deshaun Watson or some other quarterback in free agency or the draft.

But no matter what the Browns end up doing, as of now, there’s no indication of what’s going to happen in the 2026 quarterback room.

Sanders, who made seven starts and came on as an emergency substitute for Gabriel during his rookie season, is optimistic about the future.

He threw for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions with a completion rate of 56.5 percent during an inconsistent rookie year. But there’s something intriguing about the arm talent and potential he’s shown flashes of from time to time.

While Monken may bring the biggest upside, he has yet to make any decisions about the 2026 starting lineup. This announcement from Monken doesn’t come as a surprise, but it does paint a firm picture heading into the offseason.
