The Denver Broncos have added a new running back to the backfield.
The Broncos announced they requested running back Cody Schrader off waivers from the Houston Texans on Monday. Schrader (5-foot, 202 pounds) is a second-year player who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri in 2024 with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 26-year-old running back has bounced between the practice squads of the Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars and Texans this season. He was waived by Houston just five days after claiming him off waivers from the Jaguars earlier this month. Schrader has two regular-season games in his career, rushing for three yards once and has six yards receiving for the Rams in 2024.
The Denver Nuggets made room for Schrader on their 53-man roster after safety Brandon Jones was placed on injured reserve. The Broncos now have four running backs on their active roster, with Schrader joining RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaurin and Tyler Badie.
Denver fans are hoping the addition of Schrader isn’t a worrying sign regarding the status of Harvey, who suffered a rib injury against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
