When Liverpool started the 2025-26 season with results that most considered slightly better than they deserved, the question then was whether they could improve on their performance before their luck ran out.
Horrible performances in October and November showed that no, the pre-season favorites’ performances did not improve, with wins turning into draws and defeats, falling into the middle of the table. Both areas saw small increases in December, but talk of improvement appears to be minimal.

Liverpool have played better football at times, and they are back to the form that has seen them win most of their games, but the last two games in particular – 2-1 wins over Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur – could easily have ended in dropped points, suggesting that not all of their problems have been resolved.
“I think we’ve had some really good results recently but I think the performance can definitely be better,” right-back Connor Bradley said of Liverpool’s improvement in December. “That’s something we have to work on and hopefully we can do that in the coming games.
“We now have another tough game against Leeds United. We have to keep trying to build this momentum and keep it going. Leeds are a very good team – we found that out when we went to Elland Road a few weeks ago – but we are really looking forward to it.”
On December 6, Liverpool played their first game of the year against Leeds United and drew 3-3 away from home. At Anfield, with Liverpool’s form and results seemingly on the rise, expectations were that at least three points would keep the team going.

After two poor performances that ended in wins, there were lapses here and many will look back to the start of the year and, instead of talking about Liverpool possibly getting their season back on track, fear the wheels will fall off again.
But winning – and not just winning, but performing well while winning – might lead to a better 2026 for Liverpool Football Club and a talented squad that, despite their struggles, look set to finish in the top four in the new year and still have plenty of chances to fight for it.
