The Boston Celtics have had 68 different jersey numbers since the early days of the Basketball Association of America (BAA – the league that became today’s NBA) (and three more that were not part of any number series), and have been worn by over 500 players throughout the Celtics’ history.

With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor the greatest Celtics players to ever wear them, there’s a lot of history to look back on.
In today’s article, we will continue to introduce Ed Pinckney, the third of the six Boston forwards to wear the No. 54 jersey. After finishing his college career at Villanova University, Pinckney was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 10th overall pick in the 1985 NBA draft.
The Bronx, New York, native played the first two seasons of his career in Phoenix. He also played for the Sacramento Kings before being traded to Boston in 1989. His stay with the team lasted until he was traded again, this time to the Milwaukee Bucks in 1994.
During his time with the Celtics, Pinckney only wore jersey No. 54 and averaged 6.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
