His contract is for five years, with a rolling deal that automatically adds one year after each season for the remainder of his career, according to the Kansas alum. According to CBS Sports, the coach will earn approximately $53 million over the first five years of the contract.
His base salary starts at $500,000 with a $100,000 signing bonus, but his contract includes incentives and other financial conditions. Bill buys out on his own
According to the Kansas City Star, if Self leaves the Jayhawks before April 1, 2026 and moves to another Power Five team or a team that has made the Final Four within the past five years, he will be bought out for $5 million. His acquisition amount will drop to $4 million on April 1 and $3 million in April 2027.
If Self takes the NBA coaching job before April of this year, he will owe Kansas $3 million. If the coach is fired without cause, the Jayhawks would owe him $23.1 million.
