Beloved Mass. bakery known for legendary party pizzas closing after 109 years

Parties and family gatherings in Metrowest, MA will never be the same.

On Tuesday, historic Italian bakery Framingham Bakery announced on its Facebook page that it plans to close on March 29, calling it “the end of an era.”

The closing marks the end of Framingham’s 109 years in business.

“Joan, Ernie and Kathy would like to thank our customers and employees for the many years of memories,” the Framingham Bakery wrote in the notice.

Framingham Bakery is known for its Italian entrees, including ciabatta (a type of Italian bread) and its famous tray pizza.

Framingham Bakery Pizza has been a fixture at family gatherings and get-togethers in Metrowest, Massachusetts for years.

This pizza has a thick, chewy crust and is often cut into small cubes and served cold, making it perfect for crowds.

The announcement comes four months after the bakery denied plans to close. In November, the bakery responded to the rumors on social media, stating that “some people not affiliated with the business view it as purely an asset that needs to be liquidated.”

This time, it’s not a rumor. The bakery confirmed the plans to close in a message to MassLive.

Customers were quick to react to the news. Within an hour, the post announcing the bakery’s closure drew more than 600 reactions and 300 comments on Facebook.
