Bailey Maupin scores 25 to lead No. 18 Texas Tech women over Houston 85-61

HOUSTON (AP) — Bailey Maupin scored 25 points and No. 18 Texas Tech beat Houston 85-61 on Saturday night.

Maupin went 7-for-13 from the field, hit five 3-pointers and made all six free throws for the Lady Raiders (22-3, 9-3 Big 12 Conference). She also had six rebounds.

Texas Tech’s Jalynn Bristow scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, along with five rebounds and four blocks. Gemma Nunez finished with 13 points, seven assists and six steals.

Amirah Abdur-Rahim had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars (7-16, 1-11), but she also had seven turnovers as Houston turned 21 turnovers into 40 points. Kierra Merchant scored 13 points and Briana Peguero had 12 points but had six turnovers.

Bristow and Maupin hit a 16-3 three-pointer in the final five minutes of the first quarter, giving Texas Tech a 21-12 lead.

Maupin hit all four of his three-pointers in the first half and scored 16 points to help the Lady Raiders lead 44-28 at halftime. Bristow scored 10 points and the Rockets shot 58.6% before halftime. Texas Tech shot 6 of 13 from beyond the arc, while Houston shot 1 of 5 and shot 39.3% overall.

The Cougars were tied at 15 with Tech in the third quarter, but Dena Fritz’s 3-pointer gave the Lady Raiders their first 20-point lead at 66-46 with 7 minutes left.

Tech defeated Houston for the seventh time in a row. The Lady Raiders have won 28 of their last 30 games and lead the all-time series 46-14.

Houston lost its first nine conference games before beating Cincinnati 72-70 at home.
