Backstage Update On AEW Status Of Former Women’s World Champ Hikaru Shida

One of AEW’s top talents was reportedly back in the United States on Wednesday and was backstage at AEW Dynamite live in Orlando, Florida. According to Fightful Select, former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida also attended the show.

According to the outlet, Setia has been working hard to resolve the visa issue for 2025. She didn’t appear on AEW programming at all all year. Shida has occasionally wrestled in Japan but has also been dealing with shoulder issues. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select previously noted that her absence from Armageddon 2024 “raised eyebrows” due to her living in the Orlando area.

She reportedly signed an extension with AEW in October after renewing her visa earlier this month. The star confirmed the news that she herself was on her way back to the United States with a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account along with a smiling selfie. In July, she revealed she had received a new Japanese passport, which would allow her to travel internationally.

Shida’s most recent match in AEW was at “Dynamite” in November 2024, where she was defeated by Kris Statlander. Last month, she lost the TBS Championship to Mercedes Mone at AEW All Out. Shida last wrestled in November 2025 in a 10-man women’s tag team match with Nagisa Nozaki, Aya Koh, and Chiyo Nagashima. She is a three-time AEW Women’s Champion, but her most recent gold medal came at Full Gear in November 2023, when she lost the title to Toni Storm.
