The Athletics have been working on locking in their talent over the past year. It started in January 2025, when the Athletics and Brent Rucker agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $60 million.

Then, it was time for Lawrence Butler’s signature. In March, just before spring training, the two sides agreed to a seven-year, $65.5 million contract extension.
Fast forward to the offseason, and A’s fans received a Christmas gift when they learned the team had signed Tyler Soderstrom to a seven-year, $86 million contract extension. Most recently, Jacob Wilson signed a seven-year, $70 million contract extension in January.

Shea Langeliers could continue track and field trend
It would be smart for the A’s to lock down young talent early. This could save them some money while giving players a financial boost and a chance to hit free agency later on.

If the Athletics want to continue this trend, they can. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com thinks they should contact Shea Langeliers.
Langeliers will make $5.25 million in 2026, his first year of arbitration eligibility. The receiver will also have two years of arbitration eligibility before hitting free agency, and given how aggressive the Athletics have been in locking down core players — Brent Rucker, Lawrence Butler, Jacob Wilson and Tyler Soderstrom all signed extensions — it wouldn’t be surprising to see the club try to do the same with him. Langeliers was 130 over the past two seasons. Averaged 30 home runs and 76 RBIs per game.”
Langeliers has been a major contributor to the club, especially over the past two seasons. While there’s no rush, he or reigning American League Rookie of the Year Nick Kurtz should be next in line for management to decide on an extension.
