Looking around Major League Baseball, especially after what happened with Alex Cora, there are definitely some captains around the league who need to be cautious about how their teams play. Unfortunately for Astros captain Joe Espada, he might be at the top of that list.

Many thought Espada was a good guy and someone players wanted to play for, but he just didn’t have the success expected in Houston.

There are many factors that contributed to this, but with the team now at 11-18 and in last place in the AL West, there’s no excuse at all. Many believe Espada could be next in line to be fired, and it’s almost hard to disagree with anyone who feels that way.

Not only that, but if the Astros want to make a move quickly, Alex Cora could get a job in Houston.

“Prior to being hired to manage the Red Sox, Cora was a bench coach with the Houston Astros and was with the team when they won the World Series in 2017. That title is now tarnished by a sign-stealing scandal, but Cora still played a major role in Houston’s championship run.

“The Astros are currently 10-18 and have the worst record in the American League. Joe Espada hasn’t had much success, but someone with Cora’s pedigree could make a difference and help them get back on track in the near future. He’s familiar with the team and makes sense as Espada’s replacement,” SI’s Curt Bishop wrote.

Cora has ties to the Astros, but it’s also important to remember that if the Astros decided to move on from Espada now, he might not want to become the manager right away.
