LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas State Police released a statement regarding a traffic stop incident involving a child who was dealing with a medical emergency.
On Friday, Feb. 20, ASP officials said a police officer intentionally struck a vehicle when he failed to stop while trying to stop the vehicle on Interstate 630 in downtown Little Rock.

Agents said the officer was unaware the driver was driving to a nearby hospital and that a child in the car was receiving emergency medical care.
ASP officials said police called an ambulance and the child was taken to the hospital.
The incident is under investigation by the ASP Office of Professional Standards.

ASP officials issued a statement saying the agency agreed with prosecutors’ decision to drop all charges against the driver.
“Knowing everything we have done now, we agree with the prosecutor’s decision to drop all charges against the driver,” said ASP Director Col. Mike Hagar. “This incident highlights the importance of communication when a private vehicle is required to transport someone with a medical emergency, which is a common occurrence in Arkansas.”
