The Arizona Cardinals haven’t made a decision on defensive coordinator yet, but another candidate has emerged, which could mean poaching someone from another team in the NFC West.
The Cardinals interviewed Seattle Seahawks defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Carl Scott about their defensive coordinator position, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports.

Scott has been with the Seahawks since 2022, winning those titles starting with Pete Carroll as head coach. He remains on Mike McDonald’s staff, Seattle’s defensive backs that have excelled over the past few seasons with standout performances from Julian Love, Kobe Bryant, Quadre Diggs, Devin Witherspoon, Rick Woolen and 2025 rookie Nick Emmanvory.
Prior to that, he coached the defensive backs for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 under head coach Mike Zimmer.
Prior to that, he coached defensive backs from 2015 to 2020 at Louisiana Tech, Texas Tech (under former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury) and Alabama under Nick Saban.
The Cardinals are targeting Gus Bradley, Wink Martindale, Aubrey Pleasant, Dino Vasso and now Scott. Nick Rallis, defensive coordinator for the past three seasons, could also be under consideration.

Bradley became DC with the Tennessee Titans, and Vasso resigned from all DC jobs and signed a contract extension with the Houston Texans. Pleasant was the favorite, but there was no word on an interview a while ago, so it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, and he’s being considered for the Cleveland Browns’ vacancy in Washington, D.C.
We’ll see if Scott gets a job. If that happens, he will serve as defensive coordinator for the first time.
