Alisson on Inter, Liverpool, Salah and return to Italy: ‘Not playing as well as we should’

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has spoken out ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan and given his opinion on the current situation of Salah, who will not feature at the San Siro.

Inter Milan host Liverpool in the sixth round of the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Nerazzurri are tied with second-placed Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. As things stand, only Arsenal (15 points) is better than Inter Milan’s 12 points.

Liverpool have struggled to replicate their Championship form early in the 2025-26 season and are now dealing with off-field controversy following Mohamed Salah’s post-match rant on Saturday and subsequent omission from the club’s Champions League squad.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Alisson said he had full support for Salah but insisted the traveling player was only focused on returning to victory against Inter Milan on Tuesday night.

“I’m always happy to be back in a special place like Italy,” Alisson said, dusting off the Italian he picked up during his time in Italy with Roma. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of playing in a place like this and playing against a team like Inter Milan.

“It’s true that as a team we’re not in good form. We’ve had poor results and haven’t played as well as we should, but we’re confident we’ll be back in good shape soon and we hope to do that as early as tomorrow night.”

Alisson on Inter Milan’s challenge and support for Salah

Alisson was asked if he had noticed any differences between the Inter Milan teams coached by Simone Inzaghi and the current Inter Milan team led by Christian Chivu.

“It’s very different but they’ve always had that hunger, the desire to win and fight. They’ve always had quality and that hasn’t changed, the fact they have more and we know that’s the biggest challenge we face at the moment.

“When you have moments like ours, it’s difficult to face a team like this, but we are focused, have our heads down and will try to win with all due respect to Inter. All we want is to win.”

Alisson was then asked for his thoughts on the current situation of talisman Mohamed Salah, who was kept home following a post-match outburst following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United at the weekend.

“When this happens, it’s never easy,” Allison said. “Salah is loved by everyone in the dressing room and by the fans. But this is a situation between him and the club and we are currently focused on Inter Milan, which is our biggest challenge.

“I’m sorry because Salah is a great player for Liverpool. I have a great relationship with him and I feel sorry for him personally. But our goal here is to beat a great team.”

And does Alisson feel that Salah’s relationship with the club needs to be repaired?

“I think yes, you can always recover. I hope it’s for him, considering what he’s done for the club and what the club has done for him: to bring him to Liverpool and win everything. I think that’s what will happen and I hope so.”
