The African Cup of Nations, commonly known as AFCON, will be held in Morocco this year and kicks off on Sunday in the capital Rabat.

Hosts Morocco will face Comoros in the first game of the four-week tournament.

The final will be held on January 18 at the 69,500-capacity Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium in Rabat.

Nine venues in six cities have been selected for continental showcase events.

The 24 participating teams were divided into 6 groups and played a total of 68 games.

The group stage will last until December 31st, and the knockout rounds will begin on January 3rd.

Format
The top two teams in each group and the four best third-placed teams will advance to the knockout stages, starting with the top 16, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. There will also be a third place match between the two semi-final losers.
In the knockout stage, if the game ends in a draw at the end of normal playing time, the teams will play 30 minutes of overtime and, if necessary, a penalty shootout.
