Activision Says It’s Working With Nintendo to Bring Call of Duty to Switch After Black Ops 7 Reveal

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was confirmed at Microsoft’s Xbox Game Showcase on Sunday. The game will launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X in 2025, with the full version releasing later this summer. Oddly, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Call of Duty was missing from the announcement, despite Microsoft signing a 10-year deal with Nintendo in 2023 to bring the series to its platform. However, Activision has now confirmed that it is working with Nintendo to port Call of Duty to the Switch.

Activision is “committed” to bringing COD to Switch

In a statement shared with IGN, Activision said it is “committed to bringing the series to Nintendo’s platforms.” However, there was no specific mention of the Nintendo Switch 2.

“We are committed to getting the franchise on Switch. Both teams are working on it. Details will be shared when ready,” the statement read.

While the publisher has promised to bring the series to Nintendo, it’s unclear whether Black Ops 7 will be coming to Switch 2 at some point.

In 2023, Microsoft signed a 10-year licensing deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to its platform to alleviate antitrust concerns over its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The Xbox parent company signed a similar deal with Sony to continue publishing Call of Duty games on PlayStation.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and marks the first consecutively released Black Ops version in COD history. The game is set in 2035, more than 40 years after the events of “Black Ops 6”, and players will play the protagonist David Mason (David Mason) in “Black Ops 2”.

The official description on the Call of Duty website reads: “In 2035, the world is on the brink of chaos, with violence and psychological warfare raging in the wake of the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. David Mason and his team must harness cutting-edge technology to fight back against an enemy who weaponizes fear.”

A full reveal and more information about the game will be released later this summer. Black Ops 7 will launch later in 2025 on PC (via Steam, Xbox PC app, Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. It will also be available via Game Pass on day one.
