When you think of New England, the first things that usually come to mind are fall colors, maple syrup, and bad weather. But a new word quickly became associated with the region: football expansion.

Return to the national stage

From MLS to USL, New England has always shown its regional pride and top talent. Now, as the 2026 season kicks off, the NWSL is leaving no stone unturned in bringing world-class women’s soccer back to the region. Boston Heritage FC is ready to make a statement, and they plan to do it in the most Boston way possible.

For a quick refresher, long-time fans of the NWSL will remember the Boston Breakers. The historic team helped shape women’s soccer in the United States from the early 2000s until its collapse in 2018.

As the league changed over the years, the Breakers eventually disbanded. But due to strong demand for women’s football in the region, a new club emerged to take over the mantle.

Integrity, belonging, style and courage

Delving deeper into the club’s identity, Boston Heritage FC’s mission has four key pillars: Integrity, Belonging, Style and Courage. These core values allow the team to have a clear understanding of their priorities when they step onto the field.

To highlight this area, the club recently launched an ancillary kit that perfectly embodies their second pillar of belonging. The “Common Ground” kit outlines 23 different neighborhoods in Boston. The design demonstrates that the community is not only ready to support the club, but to come together for a common cause. It’s a vivid reminder that everyone is here to connect and stand on common ground.

Build a Trailblazer List

The club’s roster features several names that NWSL fans will instantly recognize on and off the field. Goalkeeper Casey Murphy and forward Nichelle Prince are two standout players ready to tackle the upcoming schedule. Both athletes are highly decorated in their own right and both are full of potential to make a difference in this inaugural season.

Off the court, the team’s Athletic Advisory Board includes two U.S. Women’s National Team veterans and trailblazers: Sam Mewis and Kristen Lilly. With an advisory board and ownership group led by all women, Boston Heritage sets the bar high for impact in the league and in the community.

Start a new legacy

The historic first season officially kicks off on Saturday, March 14th. Boston Heritage will take on last year’s championship team Gotham FC under the lights at Gillette Stadium. To celebrate the festivities, hometown legends New Kids on the Block will perform a halftime show to get the crowd excited. With over 20,000 tickets sold, this new endeavor is exciting.

While Gillette Stadium will serve as a temporary venue for the first season, the club will move to the newly renovated white stadium as its permanent home in 2027. With deep regional roots, a star-studded roster and a championship-hungry fan base, the Boston Legends don’t just want to join the NWSL, they want to conquer it.
