I’m going to be very specific about sports media here: I’ve seen complaints on Reddit and other social media from fans who want to see more traditional player analysis as well as longer and more thoughtful news coverage.
I totally agree. But for this type of content to exist, fans need to actually engage with the content when it’s in front of them, not just say they want it.
There’s a reason why gossip, trade rumors and off-court drama are on TV and blogs. This is not what sportswriters dream of when they choose this path. However, this is what audiences respond to most often.

So if you really want more investigative reporting like Pablo Torre, make sure you actually listen to his podcast. The same goes for people like ESPN’s Baxter Holmes or The Athletic’s Mirin Fader. It will encourage employers to hire people who regularly perform this type of work. —Brian Kalbrowski
Bring back the NFL franchise gang!
The NFL needs to eliminate the virtual measuring system and bring back the Chain Gang. Not because it is the most efficient way to determine the payoff line, but because it is provocative. It gets people going! Letting Big Brother decide the crucial first leg creates tension every time. Let’s go back to the good old days of eye exams and, if you must, index cards. Please clarify the College Football Playoff
I don’t know why this jumped out at me – I’m not really a college football fan at all. But from afar, it looks like the College Football Playoff is still underway. From the weird Notre Dame drama to the first-round snoozefest, it was clear something had to change. Is this how teams are chosen? Can we inject some drama ahead of the quarterfinals? please!
