Bengaluru-based developer 88 Games on Sunday announced its first game, Kapih, an action-platformer rooted in Indian folklore. No release date has been confirmed yet, but the game will be released on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Kapih will feature diverse platforming sections, boss battles, and local co-op.
Indian Action Platformer Kapih Revealed
According to the studio, the game is set in the Ramayana and follows the journey of Vaanar, a young monkey who embarks on an adventure after his village is destroyed. Along with the announcement, 88 Games also released a trailer for Kapih that showcases gameplay, the game’s Indian setting, and its co-op features.
The trailer features classic action-platforming segments that offer run-and-gun gameplay in different levels inspired by Indian folklore. Cappy also features Cuphead-style boss battles, with Vannar taking on various creatures and monsters. The young monkey protagonist will be joined by his friend Bindu, a co-op character controlled by a second player.
“Kapih delivers a fast-paced, action-packed journey filled with platforming challenges and dynamic combat. Players will progress through a variety of hand-crafted stages, each offering unique gameplay,” 88 Games said in a press release. “While running action drives the experience, Kapih also introduces other modes such as horizontal shooting sequences and vehicle-based segments,” the studio added.
As the game levels progress, players will also discover new weapons and power-ups. According to the developers, the game’s art style is inspired by Kalamkari, Thanjavur, Warli and Madhubani art forms. “From intricate hand-drawn villages to vibrant mandala landscapes, every detail has been carefully designed to bring India’s cultural vibrancy to life,” 88 Games said.
Kapih is wishlistable on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and is confirmed to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
