‘Repo Man’ explains the process of collecting Spirit Airlines jets after shutdown

(NewsNation) — With Spirit Airlines closing, thousands of employees are out of work and the big yellow plane has nowhere to fly.

Nomadic Aviation Group co-founder Bob Allen joined “The Hill on NewsNation” to discuss the process of collecting aircraft from the now-defunct Spirit Airlines.

Where will Spirit’s yellow plane go?

“Arizona is a place where planes fly and, well, sometimes die,” he said. “We’re moving them from places across the country where they’re stranded, getting them out of those places and moving them to Arizona.”

Nomadic Aviation Group is a global aircraft leasing company that delivers aircraft back to leasing companies across the country.

“Most of the time, they’re stored somewhere where they can be maintained, and the air is dry and hot, so when they’re parked on the aircraft, the aircraft is less likely to corrode,” Allen said.

His company is helping former Spirit Airlines employees through an artificial intelligence platform called Kitty Hawk that can place people in jobs or match them with new jobs.

“I’m trying to connect all of aviation. Pilots, products, services, companies,” Allen said. “It’s still in its infancy, but it’s very helpful for any pilot, and any employee looking for a job right now can go ahead and use AI to grow their network.”

Other airlines may fly Spirit Airlines

Some, if not many, of them will be absorbed by other airlines, he said.

“The hardest thing is people in their 50s, people like me who have lost their jobs and now have to look for something else, something else that is completely starting over because it’s a seniority-based system.”
