The number of players of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows exceeds 2 million

Ubisoft posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has surpassed the 2 million player milestone, confirming that the game has surpassed Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in terms of distribution.

This number includes player counts across all supported platforms, including PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, and other supported PC game storefronts), PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. While PlayStation and Xbox don’t disclose player numbers, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows’ concurrent player numbers on Steam indicate the success of its launch. According to the SteamDB chart at the time of writing, the game has a peak concurrent player count of 64,825 on Valve’s platform.

“Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” had 1 million players on the day it was released and topped the Steam bestseller list.

Back in February, Ubisoft said that pre-orders for the game were in line with 2018’s Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, the second most successful game in the Assassin’s Creed series.

Ubisoft is banking on the game’s success to escape its financial woes. The French company’s shares fell 40% in 2024 after a string of disappointing AAA games such as Avatar: Pandora’s Frontier and Star Wars: Outlaws. The Guillemot family, Ubisoft’s founding family, has been exploring acquisition talks with Tencent and other investors.

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows was delayed twice before launching on March 20. It was originally slated to launch in November 2024, but was pushed back to February 14, 2025 after sales of Star Wars: Desperados fell short of expectations. The game has been delayed for a second time to March 20 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
