As Iowa State football continues to search for the next best player to shine under the lights of Kinnick Stadium, the program received adverse recruiting news on April 4 when four-star, Class of 2027 wide receiver Landon Blum committed to Penn State instead of the Hawkeyes.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound four-star prospect from Woodbine, Iowa, is ranked as the No. 202 prospect in the country, the No. 26 wide receiver and the top player in Iowa’s 2027 class, according to Rivals’ industry rankings.

Last season at Woodbine High School, Broome had 60 catches, 24 receiving touchdowns and 1,049 yards.
In addition to Iowa State (admitted June 15, 2025) and Penn State (admitted January 14, 2026), Bloom held 18 other scholarship offers throughout his recruitment, including Auburn, Duke, Mississippi State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Miami State, as well as Big Ten foes Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes, Bloom’s relationship with first-year Penn State head coach Matt Campbell won out. While losing Broome certainly hurts, Iowa State has plenty of other options in the recruiting process that head coach Kirk Ferentz, offensive coordinator Tim Lester and the rest of the program’s recruiting staff can now turn their attention to.
