Detroit — The Pistons announced Thursday that Cade Cunningham is making progress in his recovery from a collapsed lung. The star guard will continue to be monitored by the team’s medical staff, doctors and performance experts. The team plans to re-evaluate him within a week and work toward returning to the field.
Cunningham gave the injury update two days after watching the Pistons’ 127-116 victory over the Toronto Raptors from the sideline at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday. A week ago, the All-Star guard worked out with team trainers at the Henry Ford Health Pistons Performance Center after shooting on March 25.
While there are positive signs for Cunningham’s recovery, there is currently no timetable for his return. With six games left in the regular season, he will not be eligible for the end-of-season award due to the league’s 65-game rule. He had played in 61 games when he was injured March 17 against the Washington Wizards.

“I never thought about it in the past because it didn’t affect us at all,” Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said before the Pistons’ 115-101 win on March 20. “But now, after reading it and seeing how many players it affects, including us, yes, it needs to be revised.”
