Pittsburgh will host this year’s NFL Draft and is preparing for what is expected to be one of the largest events in the city’s history.
Pittsburgh Public Schools is planning to hold classes online in anticipation of the influx of visitors and the obstacles such travel could bring. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday that they will offer remote learning from April 22-24, while the draft will be held at Point State Park and North Shore from April 23-25.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools across the United States are turning to remote learning to safely continue instruction. In the years since, some of these digital teaching technologies are still being deployed sporadically.
Green Bay hosted the NFL Draft last year, and according to PG’s report, some Wisconsin school districts closed for all or parts of the event.
Detroit public schools, on the other hand, are not deviating from their norm when hosting the draft in 2024, according to PG.
PPS is acting out of an abundance of caution because they know traffic volumes may increase and additional road restrictions may be coming, while trying to preserve their academic calendar in a safe manner.
