Three-star Ethan Coach is the ideal OLB for Washington’s defense

While they may look similar, Washington Huskies twin linebackers Ethan and Coach Justin promise to bring different styles of play to Montlake.

While Justin primarily played true inside linebacker at Cal powerhouse St. John Bosco, Ethan’s film showcases the versatility defensive coordinator Ryan Walters seeks to maximize his scheme, as does 2026 signee Ramzak Fruean and Ezaya Tokio. At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, he has the size and athleticism needed to move around the formation, rush the passer, get into coverage or run at any time.

That’s one of the biggest reasons why Fish’s coaching staff puts so much emphasis on coaching the twins because of their size and frame. In particular, Eason, who is rated the No. 60 linebacker in the nation and the No. 63 player in California in the class of 2027 by 247Sports, has the versatility to make him a coveted prospect.

During his junior season with the Braves, Eason had 17 tackles, two for loss, and also included a sack, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery while playing primarily as a true outside linebacker, where he attracted some attention. He chose the Huskies over 13 other offers, with Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State and Texas all pursuing his services.

On film, he displays an explosive first step while primarily lining up in a two-point stance as a true outside linebacker. He has active hands and a solid understanding of taking reps through pass-rushing schemes, while he’s extremely patient in the run game when he’s asked to set the edge and turn ball carriers into the teeth of the defense.

Ethan also displays impressive mobility and good range when tracking plays from behind, which should make him a reliable run defender no matter where he plays at the college level. As he and his brother prepare for their senior seasons, their ratings could see a significant boost if they can perform at a high level in the Trinity Conference, widely regarded as one of the best high school football programs in the country.
