After a narrow 2-1 victory over the Dominican Republic in the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic, Team USA could relax for 24 hours while waiting for its championship game opponent.
The Americans will compete for their second WBC title on Monday night against the winner of the semifinal between Venezuela and Italy. After recording one- and two-point wins in the quarterfinals against Canada and the semifinals against the Dominican Republic, the United States appeared ready for the knockout rounds.

When is Team USA’s next World Baseball Classic?
Team USA will take on the Venezuelan-Italian survivors on Tuesday, March 17 at Loans Warehouse Park in Miami. New York Mets right-hander Nolan McLean will be slated to start, although the final game will be a full-thrower. Fox Sports will broadcast the event live, with Joe Davis and John Smoltz participating in the conference call.
The United States and Venezuela last met in the 2023 WBC quarterfinals, with Trea Turner’s grand slam helping them win 9-7. Venezuela is seeking to compete in the WBC Championship for the first time.
Of course, if Italy advances, it will be a repeat of their 8-6 victory over the United States in the final pool game, a result that put the U.S.’s promotion into doubt.
