The North Carolina Tar Heels made an early exit from the ACC Tournament, losing to Clemson in the quarterfinals in Charlotte.
In this loss, the same struggles North Carolina has experienced this season resurfaced. Clemson is a more physical team, which led to North Carolina’s missed shots, poor offensive performance and poor overall performance. After UNC tied the game, the Tigers led by 18 points, but ultimately lost 80-79.

Although North Carolina eventually tied the game, the overall performance was poor. This was a big deal for Hubert Davis as he lost another four-way match. The Tar Heels now have a 26-42 record through four games in Davis’ five years as coach.
Here’s how Taylor Vippolis breaks it down:
This is not good. UNC’s Final Four victory came one year after they lost to Alabama in the Sweet 16 as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Davis’ track record in these big games isn’t great.
Also during that time, North Carolina missed the tournament and also entered the bubble as a top-four finisher. Now, they do make it to the championship game, but that’s in the 2021-22 season. Since then, there have been many struggles.
