The 7-foot-4 French center started pregame training about 25 minutes earlier than usual. He left the court after shooting the free throw and talking to the Spurs training staff.
The San Antonio Spurs have won five consecutive games in the past 17 games, winning 16 of them, ranking second in the Western Conference with 48 wins and 17 losses. Denver (40-26) ranks fifth in the Western Conference.
After leading the Spurs to a 4-0 record in the week ending March 8, Wembanyama was named Western Conference Player of the Week. He averaged 26 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game.
Wembanya must play in 13 of the San Antonio Spurs’ final 16 games to be eligible for the end-of-season award. The NBA requires players to play at least 20 minutes in 65 games out of 82 regular season games.

Wembanyama has appeared in 51 games this season. He played in his 52nd game after participating in the NBA Cup Final, which does not count toward the regular season standings or statistics but is part of the 65-game requirement.
Spurs forward Harrison Barnes will play Thursday after missing five straight games with a left ankle injury. Barnes played in 364 consecutive games before sitting out.
