El Paso sheriff’s deputies make arrest in bloody road rage gang assault

The El Paso County Sheriff has arrested a man accused of collectively beating a driver who was covered in blood after he was stolen during a road rage confrontation earlier this year.

Sheriff’s spokesperson Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release Thursday, March 12, that deputies arrested Cristian Garay, 20, on March 6 for aggravated robbery in connection with a January 11 road rage attack in Vista, Montana.

The driver was attacked by several unknown individuals and taken to the hospital after deputies found him covered in blood on Jan. 11 at the intersection of Greg Drive and Desert Meadows Road, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The investigation found Garay was allegedly part of a gang that attacked the driver and stole his vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials said Garay was arrested without incident on March 6 in the 3500 block of Gajeske Avenue, about a block from where officers found the victim.

El Paso County jail records show Garay was released from jail on March 9 after posting a $45,000 bond.

The investigation into the attack continues and anyone with information is asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 915-832-4408 or El Paso Crime Stoppers anonymously at 915-566-8477 (TIPS).

Crime Brief: DEA raids Socorro

DEA spokesman Carlos Briano confirmed that U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents and Socorro police served the arrest warrant in Socorro on Wednesday, March 11, during a joint operation.

On Wednesday, Drug Enforcement Administration agents and police officers were spotted in the 9990 block of Alameda Avenue off Moon Road, which houses Valley Smoke Shop and was the scene of a police standoff in an assault last May.

The Drug Enforcement Administration did not release whether anyone was arrested, what items may have been seized or any further details as the investigation continues.
