Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, the action-adventure game released on Xbox and PC last year, will finally be coming to PlayStation 5 this summer, developer Ninja Theory announced on Wednesday. The sequel to 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will launch on PS5 in an “enhanced” pack containing new features. Hellblade 2 joins the growing list of Xbox exclusive games for PS5. This year, Microsoft’s first-party games such as “Forza Horizon 5” and “Age of Mythology: Retold” have been released on PlayStation.
Senua’s Legend: Hellblade 2 announced for PS5
On the one-year anniversary of the game’s launch on Xbox Series S/X and PC, Ninja Theory has announced an enhanced version of Senua’s Legend: Hellblade 2 for PS5.
“One year ago today, we released the next chapter in Senua’s story, one we knew many people hadn’t had the opportunity to experience for themselves. Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be releasing Senua’s Legend: Hellblade II on PlayStation 5 this summer,” the studio said in an update on the Hellblade 2 website.
Senua’s Legend: Hellblade 2 will be optimized for PS5 and PS5 Pro and will bring new features that will be detailed later. These additional features will also be rolled out to both the Xbox Series S/X and PC versions of the game as free updates.
Ninja Theory has yet to specify a release date for the PS5 version of the game, but confirmed that the game will be released on the platform this summer. Senua’s Legend: Hellblade 2 is also now available for wishlisting on the PlayStation Store.
In February of this year, Windows Central’s Jez Corden claimed that Hellblade 2 would be coming to PS5 soon, it was just a matter of “when” and “if.”
This year, Microsoft has stepped up its multi-platform strategy, releasing new and old first-party games on Sony consoles. The critically acclaimed open-world racing game Forza Horizon 5 launches on Xbox and PC in 2021, and on PS5 in April. Strategy games Age of Mythology: Retelling and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition are also coming to PS5 in 2025, years after their initial releases. Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is also coming to PS5 four months after it launched on Xbox and PC.
New first-party games are also releasing on PS5 simultaneously with PC and Xbox Series S/X. Bethesda Shadows launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in April. Last week, Doom: Dark Age also released on PS5 on the same day as PC and Xbox Series S/X.
Earlier this month, Microsoft also released Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the first Gears of War, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The third-person shooter is set to launch on August 26th.
However, the Xbox parent company’s multi-platform strategy has paid off. Xbox games were among the top three best-selling games on the PlayStation Store in the US/Canada and EU regions in April. Top-selling games include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the PS5 port of Forza Horizon 5 and Minecraft.
