Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling more than 550,000 SUVs nationwide over a potential safety issue that could increase the risk of serious injury in a crash.
This recall affects certain 2021-2024 Toyota Highlander and Toyota Highlander Hybrid models.
“The second-row seat recliner assembly may not fully lock after adjusting the seat back,” the recall warns. “Seat backs that are not secured in the locked position may not properly restrain the occupants, increasing the risk of injury in a high-speed collision.”

To address this issue, Toyota dealers will replace the return spring in the seat recliner assembly with an improved part at no cost to the owner.
Notification letters to owners are expected to be mailed in early May 2026.
Drivers can also check if their vehicle is affected by entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall website.
