Sheriff Starts Drinking Four Loko At 6 A.M And Then Goes To Work Because He Is No Quitter

What do police and drunk driving have to do with each other? Cops who want to get out of trouble for drunk driving, cops who keep their jobs after driving drunk to a shooting range, and even cops who kill dogs while drunk driving home from a secret police-only bar. Now, Georgia gives us another variation: A police sergeant was arrested for DUI after allegedly driving back four Lokos at 6 a.m.

Local news channel WSB-TV reported on the story that a Hall County, Georgia, sheriff was arrested for allegedly driving his “county SUV” drunk while under the influence of Four Rock. Because the deputy had a previous alcohol problem, the deputies who captured the deputy were already in the area to revoke his SUV privileges and repossess the county vehicle. However, the high-ranking cop seems to want one last cruise and decides he needs the stimulant and depressant of every fraternity brother’s favorite drink to start his day.

Of course, alcoholism and addiction are complex issues. Given that Georgia troopers were aware enough of the Sheriff’s drinking problem to attempt to take back his Lake Tahoe, this seems to go a step further than the average cop firing off a few shots and trying to get home from a bar. Still, while addicts deserve treatment that actually helps their addiction and the underlying issues that lead to their addiction, that doesn’t mean they should necessarily become a sheriff—especially if their decision-making abilities are so impaired that they think drunk driving in Lake Tahoe is completely normal behavior.

According to WSB-TV, local residents are divided on whether the Sheriff should step down, but it sounds like he shouldn’t be in a position with immunity. If you want to gain power over others through a badge, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to demonstrate your ability to use it to make good choices – and four loko at six in the morning is certainly not a good decision.
